How often do young adults have the opportunity to present their innovative ideas to UN representatives? That is exactly what 20 people from seven countries got to do on June 26, 2016.

Participants of the 2017 Global Solutions Lab worked intensely for seven days to conceive of, research, and develop a solution to one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They then prepared and practiced their presentations before delivering them to UN officials who have expertise in the development goal areas pertinent to their solution.

Using a technology called Design Science, they learned how to define the problem and then think out of the box to create new solutions to age-old problems.

What response did they get? Each group was presented with challenging questions to test their solutions. In the end, when their UN audience was thanked for taking time out of their busy schedules, one replied, “No. It is us who thank you. It is so rare in our work that we get to hear this level of work and excitement from young people. This is our future. Thank you for coming and sharing these with us.”
